Overall objectives for the Basic Nurse Assistant Training Program are designed to meet the level of skill & knowledge that will allow the student to achieve State of Illinois Certification status as a Nursing Assistant. This program is meant to provide a strong foundation and preparation for continued academic pursuit. Following Federal and Illinois State law, this course is open to anyone 16 years of age or older and a High School diploma is not required. Some students take this course to begin a career as a CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant) while a great percentage of others are attending in order to meet prerequisites to get into a nursing program at a community college or university. To become a CNA and transfer to the college of the student's choice, the student must first complete the course with a passing grade and pass the Illinois State Competency Exam.
